During the past three decades, the spill-over effects from the international drug trade have presented a major public policy challenge for Sub-Saharan Africa. The attendant public health consequences of drug abuse as well as drug-related crimes are fast reaching crisis porportions.

Nations in Sub-Saharan Africa need a reliable source of accurate, current information  about the impact of international drug trafficking on their countries and best practices to counter its effects. The Sub-Saharan Drug Abuse Research and Consultancy Center was established as an information clearinghouse and focal point for drug prevention and education, policy makers, public and private sector leaders, and funders from NGO community to jointly develop comprehensive sustainable solutions to address this problem.
